Why Paper Crafts Are Perfect for Kids

Paper crafts are one of the most accessible creative activities for children. Paper is cheap, easy to find, and incredibly versatile. More importantly, working with paper builds fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and patience — while producing something kids are proud to show off!

Here are 5 beginner-friendly paper crafts with clear step-by-step instructions.

What You'll Need (For All Projects)

  • Colored paper or plain white paper
  • Child-safe scissors
  • Glue stick or craft glue
  • Crayons, markers, or colored pencils

Project 1: Paper Bag Puppet

Ages: 4 and up | Time: 15 minutes

  1. Take a small paper lunch bag and lay it flat with the folded bottom facing up.
  2. Draw or glue a mouth along the fold at the bottom — this becomes the puppet's mouth when you move your hand inside.
  3. Add eyes, a nose, ears, and hair using paper scraps or markers.

  1. Start with a square piece of paper. Fold it in half diagonally both ways, then unfold.
